I’m Kim Wensel, a strategic communications consultant with 10+ years in the nonprofit sector.
I love working with passionate leaders who are committed to human rights, social justice, and speaking up for what’s right. They care deeply about their mission and the people they serve and want others—outside their organization—to connect in the same way.
I help them communicate the difference their programs are making in ways that matter to stakeholders. I do this by crafting messages and materials with the end user in mind, so that no statistic, explanation, or justification is lost in translation. This results in clarity of purpose, stronger engagement, and higher levels of support among their ambassadors–from volunteers up to board members.
As a former program manager and evaluator, I understand the realities of working within a nonprofit structure, where needs often outweigh human capacity and budgets.
Starting my career in higher education, I have since worked on initiatives supporting nonprofit organizations, foundations, and associations in the areas of women’s health, community health, early childhood education, sexual and domestic violence, international development, and career development.
I received my MSW and MPH from the University of Michigan and my BA in Communications from Virginia Tech. I currently live in Fairfax, VA with my husband, infant, preschooler, and jealous dog.
